The Tony Elumelu Foundation – leading philanthropy in empowering Africans through entrepreneurship – recently hosted Amb. Cindy McCain (Executive Director, World Food Programme) to an exclusive lunch on her inaugural visit to Nigeria. On hand to welcome Ms. McCain were Tony O. Elumelu, C.F.R (Founder, the Tony Elumelu Foundation – TEF), Dr. Awele Elumelu, O.F.R (Co-Founder, TEF), and Somachi Chris-Asoluka (TEF CEO)

(M): Dr. Awele Elumelu (Co-Founder, Tony Elumelu Foundation)

This visit marks a powerful collaboration towards finding solutions that address youth unemployment, hunger, poverty and economic empowerment opportunities in Africa – a discussion that had started earlier between the two global leaders on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly meetings, in New York.

Says TEF:

As we build on the momentum from #UNGA79, this is Ms. McCain’s third time engaging with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, reinforcing our shared commitment to driving African leadership and solutions to global issues.

At The Tony Elumelu Foundation, we’ve funded 5,400 African entrepreneurs in the agriculture sector alone, representing 27% of the total number of entrepreneurs empowered by our foundation. By investing in agriculture and supporting innovative solutions, we continue to support these efforts.

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima also received Ms. McCain during her courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, as head of a delegation from the World Food Programme. Shettima underscored the country’s commitment to addressing the challenge of food security through collaboration with global bodies and other key stakeholders, which would support the efforts of federal and state authorities.
