When Financial Jennifer started out, her salary was just ₦50,000. The job was demanding, the hours were long, and her responsibilities far outweighed the pay. But she had a vision bigger than her paycheque. Monday to Friday, she was at the office. Weekends were for ICAN classes – she became a chartered accountant on the job. That one move changed everything.

But that was just the beginning. In her words, here is exactly how Jennifer turned grit, growth, and a side hustle into her first million—and how you can too.

“I became a Millionaire while on a job that paid me 50k.
How? This is how👉

If you work a 9-5, this is for you.

My first job after my youth service was in a big pharmaceutical firm. It was the job that brought me to lagos. Yes, I relocated to Lagos for a 50k job. But while on that job, I paved way for myself.

While you are not being paid enough, you can leverage your current position to get to the big money. Here are 5 actions I took to become a millionaire on a low salary.

✅1. Get certified.
Although my salary was poor, it was a demanding work, but still I made time for my exams. Mon to Fri, office. Sat-Sun, ICAN classes. I became a chartered accountant while on the job. This boosted my earning potential.

✅2. Master technical skills.
While I could get away with basic excel skills for my role, I didn’t stop there. I learnt excel and found ways to incorporate what I learn in my daily task even though it wasn’t compulsory. I used this as a learning ground.

✅3. Reach for bigger roles. My salary was 50k, but the responsibilities I reach should be worth more. I made my manager understand I’m open to more responsibilities. I started doing payroll and some other high level tasks. This took my CV to the next level.

✅4. Invest in relationships. Both within and outside your organization. Climbing the corporate ladder isn’t just about skills, referrals is how many of the roles that matter get filled. This was how I got the chance to interview for Investment banking.

Now to the actual money, while all of the above prepared me for my big break, they weren’t how I made my first million. This was how:

✅5. I Started a side hustle.
You have to create time for this, that can be the breakthrough you need. Aside from selling hair, it was while on this job I stated my finance education career. Even after I was promoted, I didn’t care about my salary. I was making 7 figures from my side hustle. It was how I was able to afford my exams.

✅5b. At this stage, your smart money moves has to be top notch. If you spend everything you make, you may never hit the million mark. Start saving/investing a portion of your income. Let investment become your other side hustle.”
