Dr. Ola Brown, a leading investor in African healthtech and fintech, shares her insights on venture capital (VC), an often-misunderstood yet vital engine of innovation. Despite its critical role in building scalable solutions for healthcare and financial inclusion across Africa, many outside the venture ecosystem don’t grasp what VC entails. To demystify this powerful force, Dr. Brown has launched a free YouTube course designed for anyone curious about understanding what venture capital is, how it functions, and why it’s especially crucial for Africa’s future. She says:

My name is Dr. Ola Brown, and I’m the founder and Managing Partner of HealthCap Africa — the continent’s leading venture capital fund specializing in healthtech and fintech.

Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of investing in some of the most promising startups across Africa, helping to build scalable solutions that address critical challenges in healthcare and financial inclusion.

With nearly 1 million followers here on LinkedIn, I often reflect on how few people outside the venture ecosystem truly understand what I do — or what venture capital even is.

Yet VC is one of the most powerful engines of innovation in the modern economy, and I believe it’s especially important for the future of Africa.

That’s why I created a free YouTube course that explains venture capital from the ground up: what it is, how it works, and why it matters — all designed for curious minds with no prior background in finance or startups.

I’d love for you to check it here.
