Ejiro Akpokodje is an international student in the UK who has first-hand experience of the challenges faced by migrants and foreign students when it comes to accessing credit.

He says: “It’s a common hurdle: you arrive in a new country, eager to establish yourself, only to find that your lack of local credit history forms a barrier to essential financial services”.

And Ejiro is actively tackling the problem.

He has just announced the early stages of his startup Drister, whose objective is to provide a solution that ensures students from around the world as well as migrants in the UK can secure credit without the prerequisite UK credit history.

Drister is exploring innovative approaches, such as leveraging home country credit history and incorporating alternative data points to assess creditworthiness.

Reaching out for support, insights, and possible partnerships from local credit agencies, Ejiro adds: “Our mission is to empower international students and migrants with the financial tools they need to succeed, without being held back by a lack of credit history.”
