Entrepreneur and investor, Henry Kaestner recently sat down to chat with Efosa KC Obano—a leader championing African entrepreneurship through the African Impact Initiative and the Black Founders Network in Canada.

Their conversation highlighted a powerful vision: innovation rooted not only in capital, but in faith and stewardship. Obano believes God is actively shaping an Africa that is free from poverty—and he believes that entrepreneurs are key players in this redemptive story.

Says Kaestner:

Had the joy of spending time with my friend Efosa KC Obano at the Chick-fil-A at Dallas Baptist University – Graduate School of Business. Efosa is leading powerful redemptive work through the African Impact Initiative and the Black Founders Network—empowering African entrepreneurs and Black founders in Canada to launch market-creating innovations.

What struck me most was his deep conviction: that God is actively at work building an Africa free from poverty—and He’s inviting us to join Him.

This is about more than capital. It’s about stewardship, gospel-centered innovation, and a vision of restoration through Faith Driven Entrepreneurs. What part are you playing in God’s redemptive story for Africa—and the entrepreneurs building its future?

Career and background

Obano holds a degree in Strategic Management from the University of Toronto, where he was later honoured with the Young Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Before his venture into entrepreneurship and impact investing, Obano worked at Dell Technologies Canada. There, he:

  • Led teams in guiding startups through digital transformation
  • Coordinated community outreach for both Dell’s Social Impact Team and Black Networking Alliance
  • Received Dell’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award for his efforts.

Recognition and awards

Honoured recently with an award for advancing Canada–Africa partnerships, a nod to his collaborative impact across continents.

Personal and vision-driven journey

Acknowledged by the United Nations and awarded the Ontario Minister’s Award of Excellence, also featured in MIPAD’s list of Most Influential People of African Descent.

Drawing inspiration from The Prosperity Paradox (co-authored by Clayton Christensen), Obano aims to drive market-creating innovations in Africa—innovations that take complex, costly systems and transform them into simple, affordable solutions for those who previously lacked access

Originally from Nigeria, Obano navigated a challenging immigrant journey after moving to Canada about 12 years ago—from international student to full citizenship.
