The year 2024 marks a true milestone in women’s sports as, for the first time ever, there will be an equal number of women and men competing in the Olympics.
The equal allocation of 10,500 qualifying spots – a far cry from the first Paris Games, in 1900, when there were 22 female athletes – is a point of pride for organisers. It is also the latest milestone in the growth of women’s sport around the world.
Female athletes are redefining what is possible as they become pacesetters for a brighter, more equitable future.
In order to bring increased visibility to the exceptional female athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics, many multimedia networks will be dedicating an ample amount of primetime coverage to women’s events.
It is essential that these female athletes are placed in the spotlight. The legacy they leave behind will inspire millions of girls – future generations of younger ones who will dream (or are already dreaming) of competing on a global stage. While watching the Paris Games, they will inadvertently see themselves in many of the greatest athletes in the world, and aspire to achieve.
