A post by Onyekachi Izukanne (Co-Founder, Trade Depot), in memory of Chidi Akubuiro (Managing Director of Operations at Trade Depot):

Journey well, brother.

With profound sorrow and deep gratitude, we celebrate the life of Chidi Akubuiro—a beloved colleague, a cherished friend, and an unparalleled leader. His legacy is intricately woven with threads of unwavering integrity, boundless warmth, and an unyielding commitment to excellence.

Chidi joined TradeDepot in 2020 with a visionary approach, eager to transform and innovate within our industry. He was not merely filling a role; he was answering a deep calling. With a mission to reinvigorate every facet of our operations, he embarked on a journey that profoundly influenced our business and reshaped our core values and culture. His method—always characterized by calmness and open-mindedness—transformed every challenge into constructive dialogue and every dialogue into tangible opportunities for growth and improvement.

Chidi’s tenure as Commercial Director, and subsequently as Managing Director for West Africa, marked a period of significant transformation at TradeDepot. His leadership transcended traditional roles, guiding us through the tumultuous waters of global disruption with unmatched grace and effectiveness. Together with Chidi, we not only weathered the storms but emerged stronger, driving our expansion into new markets and refining our commercial strategies to better meet the needs of our customers and stakeholders.

What truly distinguished Chidi, however, was his profound belief in loyalty and the depth of his relationships. Those who had the privilege of working with him couldn’t help but be fiercely loyal, a sentiment he always reciprocated. Fighting for your cause with all his heart, Chidi was like a gentle lion—his combination of tact and strength unrelentingly championed your cause. This deep sense of loyalty made him a dependable friend, colleague, and boss.

His commitment to fairness and his unwavering ethical compass, deeply rooted in his faith, were not abstract principles but lived values that guided every decision he made and lit the path for all who followed him.

Chidi’s legacy will continue to live on in each one of us whom he has inspired, mentored, and touched. We will forever be affected by the valuable lessons he has imparted, the genuine warmth he shared, and the exemplary leadership he demonstrated.

Journey well my bro. You have truly left your mark on the world.

You fought the good fight, you finished the race, you kept the faith.
